Cote d’Ivoire, or the Ivory Coast as it is also known, is a country in Africa, found on the continent’s west coast, bordered by several countries, including Ghana, Libya, and Mali. The country is perhaps most famous for its soccer stars, with players such as Didier Drogba and Gervinho plying their trade at the highest level while doing their bit for the promotion of Ivorian soccer. However, that is not all Cote d’Ivoire is well known for. The Festival of Masks (or Fetes de Masques) or a world-renowned festival in which homage is paid to the woodland spirits in the form of marks and dancing.

Outside of its culture, Cote d’Ivoire is a relatively strong country economically in relation to its neighbors. Thanks to its close relationship with France, its trade ties to Europe are still strong, even though Cote d’Ivoire claimed independence in 1960. Cocoa and rubber are two of the biggest exports of Cote d’Ivoire, both generating several billion per year for the country’s farmers. This strong economy is a base for the country to be cited as one of Africa’s emerging nations. On top of all that, the country’s tourism industry has picked up over recent years, with visitors, especially French tourists, coming for both Cote d’Ivoire’s beaches but also its safaris, as the country’s wildlife is so diverse.

At the time of writing, the casino is undergoing renovations, but in its previous incarnation in the Hotel International, the casino had around 60 slot machines, which is the mainstay of many smaller casinos. As for table games, the casino at the Hotel International featured around a dozen, and the same can be expected once the renovations have been completed. While the casino in the Hotel Sofitel in Abidjan does not currently have an open casino, once the renovations are complete, the casino will still be the biggest in the city. Of course, that is because it will still be the only casino in the city and, in fact, the country. At least for now.

While the casino is being refurbished, there is still a lot you can find yourself doing at the Hotel Sofitel, with the amenities on offer second to none in the city. Le Toit d’Abidjan serves us high-end French fare, as you would expect in a former French colony, and Le Gourmandise serves us more international cuisine in a casual surrounding overlooking the hotel’s private lake. The Toit d’Abidjan also has a bar where you can sit and enjoy a drink in luxurious surroundings, and you can also take a drink in the Cacao Lounge, which you can find in the hotel lobby. And, as you would expect in a five-star hotel, you have the usual facilities such as a tennis court, fitness center and swimming pool. On top of that, the hotel’s meeting facilities have enough room over 1,600 comfortably, with 6 rooms available to use.

The amount of casinos is sure to increase over time in Cote d’Ivoire, if for no other reason than the economy is strong, and there is a lot of investment in Abidjan, as you can tell from the money that has been pumped into the Hotel Sofitel, which is, without a doubt, the current crown jewel in a city that is on the up.
