American Roulette: The game of roulette played on an American-style wheel, with a zero and a double zero, meaning 38 numbers in total.
Ball: The small white thing that goes round the roulette wheel and lands in a number slot in the wheel.
Black Bet: A bet on the number the ball lands on being black. Pays 1-1.
Column Bet: A bet on 12 numbers, defined by the columns on the roulette table. Pays 2-1. The 1st column is: 1,4,7,10,13,16,19,22,25,28,31,34. The 2nd column is: 2,5,8,11,14,17,20,23,26,29,32,35. The 3rd column is 3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24,27,30,33,36.
Corner Bet: A bet placed on the corner of four boxes on the table. For example: 1,2,4,5. Pays 8-1.
Dozen Bet: A bet on 12 numbers, similar to a column bet. The 1st dozen is 1-12, the second dozen is 13-24, and the 3rd dozen is 25-36. Pays 2-1.
European Roulette: The game of roulette played on a European-style wheel, with a single zero, meaning 37 numbers in total.
Evens Bet: A bet on the number the ball lands on to be even. Pays 1-1.
High Bet: A bet on the number being high, which means 19-36. Pays 1-1.
Inside Bet: A bet on the numbers, as they are on the inside section of the table.
Jeu Zero: Translates as “zero game”. This is a series of bets on the numbers either side of zero. It consists of: a split bet on 0/3, a split bet on 12/15, a straight up bet on 26 and a split bet on 32/35.
Le Tiers du Cylindre: This translates as “thirds of the wheel” and is a term for betting on the numbers between 27 and 33 on a roulette wheel. The bet consists of 6 split bets which are: 5/8, 10/11, 13/16, 23/24, 27/30 and 33/36
Low Bet: A bet on the number being low, which means 1-18.
Neighbours: The two numbers to the left of a number on the wheel and the two numbers to the right. Commonly used when betting a number straight up: “Eleven and the neighbours,” would mean straight up bets on 11, 13, 36, 30 and 8.
Odds Bet: A bet on the number the ball lands on to be odd. Pays 1-1.
Orphelins: This translates as “orphans”. It’s the name for the numbers not in the “tiers” or “voisins” bet: 17,34,6, 1,20,14,31 and 9. This bet consists of a straight up bet on 1 and then 4 bets on the splits, which are: 6/9, 14/17, 17/20 and 31/34.
Outside Bet: A bet made on the sections of the table that aren’t the numbers, as they are on the outside of the table.
Red Bet: A bet on the number the ball lands on being red. Pays 1-1.
Six Line Bet: A bet on two adjacent horizontal rows of numbers. For example, 4, 5, 6,7,8,9. Pays 5-1.
Split Bet: A bet on two adjacent numbers on the wheel. For example, 1 and 2, or 17 and 20. Pays 17-1.
Straight Up Bet: A bet in a single number on the roulette wheel. Pays 35-1.
Street Bet: A bet on a horizontal row of three numbers. For example, 4, 5 and 6. Pays 11-1.
Table Limit: how much you can place on a specific bet. Generally the table limit for a straight up bet is less than outside bets.
Voisins du Zero: This translates as “neighbours of zero” and is a term for betting on the 17 numbers on a roulette wheel from 22 to 25. The bet consists of 2 chips on the 0, 2, 3 combination, then bets on the following splits: 4/7, 12/15, 18/21, 19/22 and 32/35, as well as 2 chips on the 25/26/28/29 corner bet.
Wheel: The main focus of the game of roulette. This is the round thing that the ball spins round. It has the numbers 1-36 on it, with a single 0 on European roulette wheels and single 0 and a double 0 on American roulette wheels.
