Before you hit up your next Craps game, it’d good to get an idea of the terminology used. You’ll hear a lot of terms used at the table like “Boxcars” and “Yo”. If you’re not hip with the Craps lingo, you may end up saying “Yo” back to people like a fool! So here’s all the Craps terms you should hear at the Craps table.

Aces: This can be a term used to describe a bet on the next roll being two 1s. Shout “Aces,” when passing your chip across and your bet will be placed on the appropriate box. Named after the playing card, since its value is 1.

Any Craps: A bet that the next roll will be 2, 3 or 12. Shout “Any craps,” when passing your chip and the chip will be placed in the appropriate box.

Any Seven: A bet that the next roll will be a 7. More or less the same as “Any Craps”.

Bar 12: This is seen on the “Don’t Pass” line and it means if a 12 is rolled, the outcome is a tie. It means the house has the edge on this particular bet.

Big 6: A bet that a 6 will be rolled before a 7 is rolled.

Big 8: A bet that an 8 will be rolled before a 7 is rolled.

Bones: Another name for dice in the game of craps.

Boxcars: Another term for a bet on 12.

Box Man: One of the two croupiers at the craps table.

Box Numbers: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 on the craps table. So-called because there are boxes with those numbers in on the craps table and they can all be bet on.

Come Bet: A bet after the come out roll on the point being made.

Come Out Roll: The first roll of a round of betting.

Craps: The game you’re playing and also the numbers 2, 3 and 12 on a come out roll.

Crap Out: A roll of craps (2, 3 or 12) on the come out roll.

Don’t Come Bet: The opposite of a Come Bet. You’re betting on the point not being made before a 7 is rolled.

Don’t Pass: When craps is rolled initially, or the point is not made before a 7 is rolled.

Don’t Pass Bet: Betting craps will be rolled on the come out roll, or a 7 is rolled before the point is made after the come out roll.

Easy: When the total is made of two different numbers. Easy 8 would be 5 and 3, or 6 and 2.

Field: Betting on 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, and 12 being rolled. Sometimes better odds are offered on 2 and 12 on a field bet.

Hard Way: When the total is made up of the same number on the dice. So, Hard 8 would be 4 and 4.

Inside Numbers: 5, 6, 8, and 9.

Line Bet: Betting on the “Pass” or “Don’t Pass” line.

Marker Puck: Used by the croupier to signify the point number. It’s placed in the relevant box once the point is established.

Natural: 7 or 11 on the come out roll.

Outside Numbers: 4, 5, 9, and 10.

Pass: When the point is made, or 7 or 11 is thrown on the come out roll.

Pass Bet: Betting a point will be made, or a 7 or 11 will be thrown on the come out roll.

Point: A number established on a come out roll is 7, 11 or craps isn’t rolled. So, it will either be 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 and once established must be made before a 7 is rolled.

Seven Out: Rolling a 7 before rolling the point number.

Shooter: The player rolling the dice at the table.

Stick Man: The croupier at the table in charge of the dice. They have a stick to reach for the dice, hence the name.

Toke: A tip for the staff, sometimes made in the form of a small wager on the table.

Yo: A term used instead of the number 11. When 11 is rolled, the Box Man or Stick Man will tend to shout out, “Yo!”
