The Fibonacci Betting System is a betting strategy when it comes to playing at casinos and can be used at any game that has even money wagers available, such as roulette (on red/black), blackjack or craps. It is based around the Fibonacci Sequence of numbers.

I’ll bet on black at the roulette table. My first bet is 1 unit. I’ll keep betting 1 unit until I lose. Once I lose, I bet 1 unit again. If that bet loses, then I move up the sequence to betting 2 units. If I lose that bet, I move up to 3 units. And if each bet loses, I keep moving up the ladder until I hit my limit (in this case, the 21 unit bet).

However, if any of my bets win, I move down two steps on the sequence. If I am on the bet of 5 units and it wins, I move back to 2 units. If this wins, I move back to 1. If your second bet (1 unit) wins, you simply move back one spot, back to the start.

The problem with this system is that the amount you bet starts to get a bit out of control after a run of losses. However, if you bet within your means, it’s a fun system to use. It might seem like the Martingale System, and to an extent, it is. However, the amount you wager doesn’t climb as quickly as the Martingale. For example, a run of 5 loses using Fibonacci would mean 8 units on your next bet, whilst using Martingale would be a bet of 32 units. So you definitely get more bang for your buck using Fibonacci.

Personally, I quite like the Fibonacci System when compared to systems like Martingale or d’Alembert, but it’s still not something I would recommend to anyone for anything more than a bit of fun. The only reason it’s better than these systems is that it’s less aggressive to your bankroll and the amounts you’re betting don’t spiral out of control as quickly.

You won’t break the bank using the Fibonacci Betting System and you could end up losing a considerable amount if you go on a cold run. However, if you’re using it for fun, I would recommend it over the others I mentioned before. Just remember to always set a limit on how much you’re willing to lose and how much you’re wanting to win. Remember that it’s important to know when to walk away when you’re winning, as well. It’s no good using this system, making a nice profit and then blowing it all!

Well, simply put, you’re going to lose money. If you go on a losing run, you might run out of money, or hit your limit before you even get a chance to claw any of it back. A losing run of 6 bets means you’ve already lost 20 units and your next bet is going to cost you 13 more, with only a 50% (well, just under that) chance of winning. Even if that bet and the next bet wins, you’re still making a loss.

You actually need 3 winning bets just to break even. Now imagine that run was even worse, or you have a sequence where you win a few, but lose more: you could theoretically be betting 377 units and be in the hole for 609 units. And don’t think it can’t happen, I think we’ve all seen sick runs where it would come up red 10 spins or more in a row, or a cold deck in blackjack. It can happen and it will happen and using this system isn’t going to help matters, especially as your aim is only to win 1 unit at a time!
