Eleanor asks:
Are the best machines with the best odds for winning on the top floor of the Casino? When I am on the first floor, there is a lot of traffic and I do not feel lucky. I won over $33,000 on the 3rd floor which is the top floor. Please contact me as soon as possible. Thank you very much
The rumor has it that casinos tend to put their best paying slot machines near the entrance to the casino. It’s also the case with Pachinko machines in Japan. Now, whether or not this is true is for you to decide, but the thinking behind it is that if people are walking past a casino and they see someone having a nice win, they’re more likely to come in and play because they think the slots are loose. Hiding the winning slots from general view would be the worst thing possible, as casino can take the losses from slot machines and people like seeing people win, because they then feel like they can do it too. So, put the winning machines where there’s a high amount of traffic is the theory, because more people will play and they’ll have to play on machines with lower payout percentages because the ones near the entrance are taken up, therefore the casino still wins in the long run.
As for you being lucky on the third floor, yet having less luck elsewhere, it’s simply down to variance. If you sit and play the same type of machine over a constant amount of time, regardless of what floor of the casino it’s on, you’ll win the same, give or take a few dollars.
