What Are Boosted Odds?

Boosted odds are a promotional tool used by various online sportsbooks.

It’s interesting because boosted odds have been around for years. For many soccer games on a sportsbook such as Bet365 for example, they will list the odds for the teams to win. Then if you click on it to expand the selection, you will see the full-time results but with the enhanced prices listed.

Yet they only really became popular when sportsbooks such as DraftKings entered the US market and started doing a daily odds boost where they pick 1-3 games and then boost the odds on a bet you can make.

Now you have sportsbooks such as GemBet which has an entire section of their website above the fold dedicated to games that have boosted odds. There always cover a variety of different sports as well, such as La Liga, the ATP Masters, the NBA, and the NHL all in one day.

Boosted odds can be offered in a variety of ways.

Best Sportsbooks

The most common boosted odds bet is simply offering you better odds. So the New York Rangers may be 1.72 to win at most sportsbooks, but with the boosted odds are 1.78 to win at this particular sportsbook.

If there is a point spread involved, often a sportsbook will offer better points as part of their boosted odds. So the Toronto Raptors may be +2.5 on the road, but the boosted odds will give you the Raptors at +3.5 or +4.5.

One big positive to betting boosted odds, is in theory, it is making it a bet with a positive ROI. If every other sportsbook offers odds at -110 and you are getting a team at +100 due to boosted odds, then you are at the very least getting value over betting it elsewhere.

Sportsbooks know that prop bets can be very popular so you will see various prop bets and combination bets available as part of the daily odds boost. The sportsbooks know that people can’t resist these odds boosts and will bet blindly, so they can gain back an advantage by offering odds boosts on high variance props that you would normally never bet.

That is why it is important to be selective when it comes to taking advantage of odds boosts. For example in one odds boost, the prop bet was for the Edmonton Oilers to score 4+ goals against the Tampa Bay Lightning. It was boosted from +155 to +170. You shouldn’t just blindly bet that – you should compare it with other sportsbooks, and make your own mind up as to whether there is value in that play or not.

And for the record – in that particular one, the Oilers 4+ goals was +165 at other sportsbooks. So the boosted odds in that particular instance weren’t as great because they were set low to begin with.

Note that some boosted odds bets can sound ridiculous – odds such as 100/1 on the Toronto Maple Leafs scoring a goal in a game against the Detroit Red Wings. These usually have a very low wagering restriction such as $1 maximum and are set up as loss leaders to simply get you to deposit and bet at this sportsbook. Be sure to take advantage of these loss leaders when on offer.

Additional Boosted Odds Questions:

Q: Is there any negative to boosted odds?

It depends on the online sportsbook, but yes there can be. At Bet365 for example, with their enhanced prices you are not able to parlay them and they are not eligible for the early payout special. Other online sportsbooks may limit the amount which you can actually bet.

All online sportsbooks are upfront in regard to this though.

Q: Can you parlay boosted odds?

Many sportsbooks will have a rule that you cannot use boosted odds in any sort of parlay and you must bet them separately.

However many sportsbooks will also offer boosted odds on parlays. A sportsbook such as Bet365 for example offers a multi-sport parlay bonus to eligible customers. If you pick a 5 fold parlay covering at least 2 different sports, you would get a 20% bonus on it. Those can be good to look into because this way, YOU are the one that is choosing what odds to take advantage of within a boost, as opposed to leaving it in the hands of the sportsbooks.
