Butterfly Lovers is an October 2019 Wazdan-owned video slot that revolves around a legendary ill-fated love story. Themes: oriental, romance, gems, betrothal, arranged marriage, ancient social norms, flowers, spirit animals, tragedy, reincarnation, and logographs. The slot title “Butterfly Lovers” is borrowed from a similarly titled China’s Jin Dynasty-era love story, starring male lover Liang Shanbo and female lover Zhu Yingtai. Yingtai’s parents plan her arranged marriage; however, classmates Shanbo and Yingtai had already vowed themselves to each other. Shanbo dies of disappointment, prompting Yingtai to desert her wedding processional to visit her betrothed lover’s grave that expectedly swallows her. Together in the grave at last, Shanbo and Yingtai become butterfly spirit animals.
